Just for Fun » Print Your Own Magic

You can print these files on your home ink-jet or laser printer and make your own Hatching Magic bookmarks, temporary tattoos, stickers, and even magnets.

What you'll need

  • a color printer
  • sharp scissors (small scissors will be better for trimming)
  • specialty paper

In addition, for bookmarks you might want to have on hand

  • a hole punch
  • bookmark tassels (available at craft stores)
  • glitter
  • photo lamination sheets (available in the photo section of drugstores)

There are different printer papers for temporary ("water-slide") tattoos, stickers, and magnets. For bookmarks you should choose a slightly heavier paper, but not one that so heavy it will get stuck in your printer.

Bookmark Instructions

Print the files out on heavy paper and trim. If you like, add your own message to the back with a marker, and decorate the front with glitter. Follow the directions on the lamination sheet to laminate your bookmarks, then cut them out with the scissors. Punch a hole a little way in from the top, at least a quarter of an inch in, and thread the loop end of the tassel through the hole. Then thread the tassel through the loop and tighten.

Tattoo Instructions

Note that these image files are backwards. The tattoo will be facing the right way once you apply it.

Follow the directions on the water-slide tattoo paper package for printing the tattoos. Apply using the manufacturer's instructions.most water-slide tattoos are applied using a damp washcloth. They wear off in a few days and can be removed with baby oil.

Stickers and Magnets

You can easily print stickers and magnets using specialty paper available in the computer supplies department of big office supply stores. I didn't have luck getting my printer to print on the magnet paper, so I printed a sheet of stickers and applied the stickers onto the magnet and then cut them out. The magnets won't be strong enough to hold up heavy items, but they should hold notes and photos just fine.
